Mitchell Anderson

Mitchell Anderson has had two lives.  The first began in 1983 when he left Juilliard to accept his first professional acting job, the second began in 2002, when he left show business and put on an apron!

As an actor, Mitchell worked for nearly 20 years on film, television and stage.  He is perhaps best known as Claudia’s Violin teacher, Ross on PARTY OF FIVE, which he did as a recurring role for six seasons.  He also starred as the skirt chasing Dr. Jack McGuire on DOOGIE HOWSER, MD.  In addition to dozens of guest appearances on television shows throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Mitchell starred in numerous Television Movies including THE KAREN CARPENTER STORY (as Richard Carpenter), IS THERE LIFE OUT THERE? (opposite Reba McIntire), and BACK TO HANNIBAL (as an adult Huck Finn.)  His film RELAX IT’S JUST SEX, in which he starred opposite Jennifer Tilly, was released exactly ten years ago.

After moving to Atlanta, Mitchell worked at the Alliance in A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and the world premiere of THE SUBJECT TONIGHT IS LOVE, by Sandra Deer.  At Actor’s Express, Mitchell starred with Daniel May in BENT and most recently the world premiere of Steve Yockey’s OCTOPUS.

Mitchell’s second life began in 2002 when, after five years of traveling between LA and Atlanta to maintain a relationship with his partner Richie Arpino, he moved to Atlanta and decided to change careers.  Armed with nothing more than a love of food and the ability to use a knife without injury, Mitchell was taken in by Atlanta’s soup queen, Souper Jenny.  He was able to turn an apprenticeship in the kitchen into a real job in which he learned about the restaurant business.  And when he was ready, with the blessing and guidance of his mentor Jenifer Levison, he was nudged out the door to open his own restaurant.

MetroFresh – Fresh Food Fast, opened in October of 2005.  With a menu that changes daily, MetroFresh is now a fixture in the Midtown/VA Highland neighborhood.   Mitchell’s goal with MetroFresh has been to offer a small oasis of calm in a crazy world.  “I always wanted people to feel they were walking into my kitchen.”  Creating a successful business means wearing many hats and in any given day, Mitchell can be found in the kitchen creating the menu, stirring the soup, delivering a catering order, or busing the tables.
